As summer slowly turns its back on us, shading a pink morning light and an early evening light on its way to sleep, the heat starts to mellow, which leaves us with some kind of nostalgia; it is time for many of us to wake up from that bright and golden summer dream, to come back to what we usually call reality. But so many things happened, for us all I guess, things that are essential to cherish and to come back to, in order to nourish that sparkle of happiness inside, that smile we can all draw on when life’s a little tougher.
I would not even know where to start to describe what I’ve been living and how I’ve been feeling to this date. From meeting amazingly inspiring and uplifting people, living a life-changing (yogic) experience and focusing on my blogging passion (which also led me on self-questioning paths that truly were beautiful), to feeling like my heart and soul have never been so fulfilled, I feel like life really is good to me. You might now be thinking “What the hell is he doing in his life to say these things?! This is just over the top”…! Well, I promise that this is not, because I do have bad days, I do have arguments and I do feel depressed from time to time. But, what really change is that instead of focusing on those things, I try to concentrate on the little and fleeting instants, the good events in my life, my achievements and on all the beautiful compliments I get every single day, on the blog, my teaching yoga, my behaviour or everlasting good mood.
I would also say that our mindset truly is the key: not having expectations about ourselves or others, telling people you love them and repeat it whenever you see them, taking time to enjoy something even though for a short amount of time, seeing the good in ourselves and others, being confident about the future and most importantly, not thinking that whatever decision/action we’re taking/doing at some point will affect our life for good (this is for anxious and perfectionist people…just like me!). Even with the tiniest effort, you’ll probably start feeling that gratefulness and happiness about life. And that’s contagious!
(God, I’ve just realised that I’ve been writing the two last paragraph for the last hour, that my cup of tea is empty and that the sun’s already set…I should really think about taming my writer self a little and keeping my thoughts shut haha!).
Anyway, let’s drink to to a beautiful and everlasting summer (not the heat, just its moments) with this green smoothie that surely will make us feel superb as well! There are many things I love about this drink. First, it’s fresh, and has this summery taste that is perfect whenever feeling nostalgic. Second, it has an insanely surprising taste of fennel, which is close from anise, and that brings this drink to another level. Third, it is full of potassium, antioxidants (alpha-lipoic acid, which lower glucose levels and reinforce our immune system), chlorophyll and vitamin K…all of this brought by our green friend spinach! I know adding vegetables to smoothies sounds weird, but get over this prejudice and try it for yourself, you will never forget it and soon be dreaming of the next one you’ll be testing!
Banana, Spinach & Fennel Smoothie
Portions: One serving. Preparation time: 5 minutes.
- 1 banana, peeled and chopped
- 1 big handful of spinach
- ¼ fennel bulb
- ½ lemon, the juice
- 150ml of coconut water
(1) Parachute all the ingredients together in a blender or food processor and blend until obtaining a smooth and glossy green liquid. Best way to rehydrate!
